Lake Macquarie is an ideal venue for this type of maritime festival due to its static tide - no rise and fall of water level - therefore no need to adjust mooring lines during the event !
Lake Macquarie has mountains, beaches, and a spectacular lake.
Being one of the largest coastal saltwater lakes in Australia, it is blessed by having the Swansea Channel, linking it to the ocean, giving access to vessels cruising the NSW coast.
Easter is only 2nd after the Christmas period as being the most popular time of the year for the influx of such cruising vessels.
This very successful major maritime event will again be held over two days on the Easter Long Weekend, Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th April 2010 at Regatta Park, Toronto, on Lake Macquarie.
Surrounded by beautiful beaches, mountains, and the ocean, the city of Lake Macquarie is located 90 minutes north of Sydney, 10 minutes from Newcastle, and 40 minutes from Hunter Wine Country and the NSW Central Coast.
The Lake Macquarie Classic Boatfest is an annual event originally called Heritage Afloat.
The festival is now being organised and run by the newly formed Lake Macquarie Classic Boat Association Incorporated.
This Association largely comprises the dedicated volunteers who were behind the previous similar such events.
The members of the Association recognised the widespread interest for the event to continue.
Unfortunately, for this first event, the members of the Association were left with very little time, to ‘start from scratch’, causing this inaugural event to be a little scaled down from those preceding it.
Nevertheless, the Committee is very committed to rebuilding the Event to its former significance.
